Trek to Amnye Machen

One of the eight sacred snow mountains, source of the Yellow River, home of the warrior Goloks and Tsebho's favourite trek.

Rising to a height of 6222 meters out of the Eastern Kunlun Range in theQinghai/Amdo Tibetan Autonomous Region, Amnye machen was once thought to be the tallest mountain on the planet.

Follow in the footsteps of thousands of Tibetan pilgrims who for centuries have trekked accross the Qinghai grasslands to follow the sacred kora - a path around the base of the mounatin that pilgrims follow stringing prayer flags and placing mani stone piles in reverence of the sacred geography.

Your expedition starts in Xining (Zilang) the former trade city on the southern edge of Silk Road and now the capital city of Qinghai Province and ends in Lanzhou city the Provincial Capitalor. Travelling by jeep you will visit the famous monstery town of Labrang ( Xiahe), picnic on the ganja grasslands, tour the Kumbum monastery famous for its butter sculptures, and cross the sacred aters of Machu, headwaters of the yellow River.

For those who choose to be on a longer trip with more cultural activities, an option to traverse AMDO and kham finsihing up in Chengdu is also a practical alternative.
